LIVING THE SEA
Ogliastra, the untouched, still wild heart of Sardinia, is reached following the tracks of the Cannonau. It’s a peninsula of Sardinia full of contrasting altitudes which take the visitor from the mountains of the Massiccio del Gennargentu (Gennargentu Massif) to the sea in a succession of breathtaking landscapes. Defined as ‘the amphitheatre of the sea’ because of its spectacular nature, Ogliastra is worth experiencing because of its enchanting beaches and the Caribbean transparent sea, the spectacular limestone rocks and evocative red stacks, the inebriating scents of the pine-woods and the Mediterranean scrub where the unmistakeable essence of myrtle stands out.
Beaches and coves are irresistible for people who love unpolluted nature, in landscape dominated by the intense blue of the sea and sky, the ideal destination for water sport fans who can go snorkelling, diving or sport fishing here. Notable places include the beaches between Arbatax and Cala Golone, Cala Goliritzè, Cala Mariolu and Cala Luna, some of the most beautiful and evocative in Italy and Europe. The Lido di Orrì, at Tortolì, and the Lido di Cea, between Tortolì and Bari Sardo, which were awarded the Blue Flag in 2017 for the commitment to maintaining high environmental standards, are also not to be missed.
